  1. There are three layers depicted in this painting. Could you describe each one of them as accurately as possible?

  2. There is a guard clearly presented in both layers. What's his role in the painting? What could he be doing in the scene?

  3. There are high walls dominating the surface of this city as well as its underground area. Can you spot any similarities with Cavafi's poem. Are they the same walls the poet despairs on?

  4. What could you say about the other humans in the scene? What are they doing there?

  5. Why has the artist chosen to place them in the positions they are? Spot similarities and differences with the people building the walls in Cavafi's poem.

  6. If you could give a title describing this painting, what would it be?

  7. If you could add or change something, what would that be?

  8. What's the most impressive or sensational part of this painting? Why do you think so?
